Communications Center Dispatchers

The Communications Center is the hub and heart of the San Diego State University Police Department, where POST certified dispatchers receive emergency and non-emergency calls. To maintain constant radio contact with University Police Officers, the center is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We have two, full-time, lead dispatchers; and five, full-time regular dispatchers, whose duties include:

  1. 911 emergency calls

  2. Duress phone calls

  3. Emergency elevator phone activations

  4. Non-emergency calls

  5. Radio dispatching of patrol officers, parking officers, and community service officers

  6. Walk-up service window

  7. Monitoring and inquiring the campus card access system

  8. Monitoring the campus fire alarm system

  9. Accessing, inquiring and updating several law enforcement database systems

Non-emergency services provided:

  1. Vehicle impound release

  2. Vehicle battery jumpstart

  3. Authorized room unlocks

  4. After-hours escort requests  — call 594-6659 before 11 p.m.; or 594-1991 after 11 p.m.

  5. Maintenance problems  — call 594-4754 before 4:30 p.m.; or 594-1991 after 4:30 p.m.
